A $12,500 check to support this summer’s Project Fibonacci STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) Youth Conference was presented by founders of the Shoreline Group, a professional services and software development company.
The funding was presented to Andrew Drozd, president and chief scientist of ANDRO Computational Solutions, LLC of Rome and founder of the Project Fibonacci initiative.
The Shoreline company was co-founded by Bob Bojanek of Rome with five partners including David Lovy and David Gauthier of Syracuse. it has been at the forefront of the internet protocol voice revolution, and its software manages many large private voice and data networks, according to an announcement.
The second annual Project Fionacci STEAM Youth conference, to be July 30-Aug. 5 at The Beeches, also has received some supporting checks from other local organizations. The event, for students entering 11th grade through their senior year of college, will include workshops, field trips and addresses from celebrity guests. It is geared to help build students’ interest in STEAM-related fields.

The initial conference last year was attended by over 100 high school and college students. Drozd said it brought in nearly $340,000 to the Mohawk Valley economy.
“We want to continue to grow and increase that impact in 2017 and beyond as well as synergize our activities with other local and regional workforce education, economic development, entrepreneurial and start-up initiatives to revitalize our region and capitalize on its many strengths,” said Drozd. “About 10 internships and several new jobs were realized, so this initiative is already making an impact on our area in just a relatively short time….”
